Lancashire the Home of Innovation

The Simmal Roadshow hit the streets last night, its mission simply, to take “the word” to the people. Not since the days of the Beatles at Shay Stadium, Freddy Mercury at Live Aid or the Chuckle Brothers at Southport Theatre had so many been entertained by so few. A captive audience (they were locked in) refreshed (deprived of food and water) were held mesmerized (dazed) during a short presentation (7 hours) showcasing the many benefits (the compulsory specification) of aluminium extrusions in design.

A good crowd braved gale force winds, driving rain and innumerable flood alerts, even missing I’m a Celebrity Get me out of Here (writer included) to hear Neil Hamilton and Frank Power wax evangelically on the many benefits of extrusion in innovation and design. X Factor meets Dragons Den was how one person described the evening (admittedly that was me) but as much as we may have imparted, we took back equally from the attendees.

In the event of an accident, the light weight aluminium alloy front and rear structures are designed to absorb impact forces in a crash and can be replaced relatively easily. Aluminium extrusions and castings are jig welded into the finished assembly and bolted directly to the MonoCell. Cars with full aluminium chassis use their structure to absorb and crumple on impact, which implies more fundamental damage (and expense) to the whole structure, including the passenger cell, in a major accident.

Simmal were delighted to have been selected supply partner on these particularly challenging profiles.
