Examples
Simmal aluminium extrusions are used across the country and internationally in an array of applications. See the examples below for more information.
Street furniture
Description:
This demonstrates an innovative example of using aluminium extrusion in a street furniture application. This combined very tight tolerances over the 150mm width with outstanding surface quality. Tight control over concentricity and eccentricity was essential, and this was prototyped off tool in less than 4 days. Street furniture is now a major outlet for Simmal aluminium extrusions, from bus shelters, to smoking shelters, directional sign systems and information hubs.
Unusual display application
Description:
Whilst most of our display applications are more in store High Street based sometimes the market demands something just a bit more demanding.
This eye catching assembly presents vehicles outside Land Rover Dealers across the UK. It required obvious structural integrity but as importantly the capacity to showcase the vehicle at different angles.
Toilet cubicles
Description:
This is a large market for aluminium extrusions. It is also high specification with demanding aesthetics. Simmal have supplied these in many finishes from anodised and painted, to in one application, silk screen printed with the A-Z of London and then green anodised. You can see these in most motorway service stations, gyms, premiership football grounds and some of the big city banks.
Conservatory roof
Description:
An extremely challenging design. Utilising a male female fit arrangement formed over a 4000mm span. This architect designed conservatory roof, featured over 3 tonnes of aluminium extrusions, and the big challenge was forming the sections to a relatively tight radius, whilst retaining the mating details of the fit. Failure in controlling this deviation would have negatively impacted on the fit, which would then have adversely affected the overall roof geometry.
Aluminium dress
Description:
We were delighted to supply a local award winning fashion design student
Faye Bamber with the material for the dress showcased here. For further

Graphics display
Description:
Below is possibly the most innovative frameless graphics display system in the market as seen in many High Street stores. Above is the Zero Rail supplied by Simmal punched, drilled, painted and anodised. It adorns the walls of many M&S stores throughout the UK and Europe.
Telescopic sections
Description:
Applications that require this type of fit are notoriously difficult to achieve. This particular application was part of a club retrieval carousel in a top of the range golf trolley. The carousel was electronic, as such tolerance issues not just between the extrusions, but other mating parts was essential to enhance functionality. The outer profiling on both of the sections was incorporated to address these issues. Again this was prototyped off tool, in exactly the same alloy in less than 48 hours.
Lighting section
Description:
Aluminium extrusion forming the outer body of a lighting section, incorporating heat dissipation fins on the exterior. The advantages of extrusion in this application are obvious to see. It acts as a carrier for the internal parts, it can be painted, anodised., chrome plated etc to bring aesthetics to the end product and with the fins incorporated over heating is addressed without the addition of secondary devices.
End caps
Description:
A high proportion of sections we currently do are enclosure sections for electronic devices, PCB carriers effectively. Applications such as external hard drives, CCTV cameras are the most visible. End caps can be supplied to finish the product, these can be water jet cut, laser cut, injected moulded, or as in the case of the photograph, machined from solid to give that really engineered look.
